Jo Daviess County Ambulance Association

The Association is composed of dedicated volunteer ambulance services and first responder agencies which serve our municipalities, townships, and private association areas. We meet the second Thursday of the month to discuss a variety of topics ranging from county and statewide EMS issues to the needs of individual services.

Jo Daviess County is served by an enhanced 911 center located in the County Public Safety Building in Galena. The center currently accepts wired and Phase II wireless calls, as well as VOIP (internet based) calls. The staff holds Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) licensure from the state, in cooperation with our Project Medical Director at Rockford Memorial Hospital. In addition to EMD certification more than half of the staff either currently hold or previously held licensure ranging from First Responder to Paramedic, and the majority still work with local EMS providers.

All county-based fire and EMS services are paged directly from the center. A small portion of the county receives fire and EMS service from neighboring counties and their respective centers. East Dubuque currently has a combined fire and EMS service, which is contracted paramedic coverage by Heartland EMS in Dubuque, IA. The majority of the EMS services are stand alone entities which are overseen by their respective boards. Air medical transport is offered by two services in Rockford, IL, as well as one in the Quad Cities area. Additional resources are available from more outlying services when needed.

The county can be proud of the excellent working relationship between EMS services as well as the cooperation with area fire departments. EMS is currently working with our local fire department association for participation in the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 49. This is a state and regional mutual aid organization providing resources for local incidents to national disasters requiring out of state deployments.

If you are travelling to or through our area and would like to visit, please contact the respective services listed in advance, as the actual facilities may not be staffed.
